The Suits are Back

This morning I dropped off a couple suits at the dry cleaner. This is the signal that recruiting season is fully underway. I've been to a a handful of briefings this year, perhaps a few less than last year. One big advantage is that I have a solid idea of what I'm looking for. There are others using a strategy of casting a wide net but I am happy to be focused on a small set of opportunities. The typical sequence of courting a company would go something like this:

  1. establish networking connections
  2. attend company briefing
  3. more networking
  4. request an interview
  5. interview round 1
  6. interview round 2
These steps may vary slightly for individuals but you might imagine that this is a serious time investment. Now imagine that some students are courting over ten companies this fall. How is this possible? I actually have no idea but the question I ask myself is why would you want to do this? At the end of the day (school year) we will all choose a maximum of one. I have speculated that if you have twelve interviews you earn a free submarine sandwich.
